The Power of “Yet”: The Tiny Word That Changes Everything!

Updated: Apr 22

Feeling stuck? Doubting yourself? Telling people (and yourself) “I just can’t”? It’s time to meet your new best friend: the tiny but mighty word YET.  In video, I confess to once being a self-proclaimed terrible cook, stuck in a fixed mindset of “I just can’t do it.” But enter the magic of growth mindset—and one three-letter word that changes everything!

Let’s play a quick game. Finish this sentence:

“I can’t cook.”

Boom. Limiting belief. Fixed mindset. Sad little punctuation mark at the end of what could be an awesome story.

But now—try this instead:

“I can’t cook… yet.

💥 And just like that, your brain perks up and goes, “Wait a sec. We’re not done here!”

Meet the Unsung Hero: YET

Three tiny letters. One massive shift.

In this video love note to growth mindset, our success coach shares how “yet” became a game-changer—especially in the kitchen. For years, the story was:

“Other people in my family can cook. Not me. I’m just not a cook. I can’t learn.”

Enter: The Power of Yet Exit: All that fixed mindset nonsense.

Why “Yet” Works Like Magic

Here’s the deal. When we say we “can’t” do something—cook, code, parallel park—we slam the door shut. No progress, no possibility, just us sitting in a room with our self-doubt and a bowl of cereal for dinner (again).

But when we add yet, something shifts. It turns that period into an ellipsis. It makes space for learning, growing, experimenting (and maybe burning a few things along the way, but hey—progress!).

Try It Yourself: Instant Mindset Makeover

Let’s flip a few common culprits:

❌ “I don’t get this math.”✅ “I don’t get this math… yet.

❌ “I’m not a runner.”✅ “I’m not a runner… yet.

❌ “This tech stuff makes no sense.”✅ “This tech stuff makes no sense… yet.

See what we’re doing here? We’re creating room to grow. We’re telling our brains, “Hang tight—we’re just on Step 1.”

Be the “Yet” Hype Squad

Here’s where it gets even cooler: You can model this for others too.

When your friend groans, “Ugh, I’m just not creative,”you can gently toss back,

“Not creative… yet!

When your kid says, “I’ll never learn to tie my shoes,”you respond with a grin,

“Not yet, buddy—but you will!”

You're not just a person anymore. You're a mindset ninja. 🥷✨

Final Word (Literally): Yet.

So here’s your homework. Next time you catch yourself saying, “I can’t,” “I don’t,” or “I’ll never,” sneak that magic word onto the end. Even whisper it if you have to.

Because yet doesn’t mean you're there.It means you're going.And that’s a pretty great place to be.

Keep growing, keep learning—and remember: you’re not done... yet.
